Mac apps (Reeder)
Modifying Mac programs to support Reedah is generally simple. Before you start, you will need to install a Hex editor (e.g. HexEdit) and the Mac program that syncs with Google Reader. For Reeder, this means version 1.2.
Step 1: Open Reeder with HexEdit
In the Finder, duplicate Reeder (e.g. "Reeder copy"). Start HexEdit, and locate Reeder in the Open dialog. Choose "Contents" then "MacOS" then "Reeder".
Step 2: Modfiy the program
- Find -> Find & Replace, do "Replace All" of www.google.com to www.reedah.com
- Find -> Find & Replace, do "Replace All" of http://google.com to http://reedah.com
- Find -> Find & Replace, find "Passwd=". For each occurrence (twice), replace the "%@" that follows with your Reedah password.
- Immediately before "Passwd=", find "source=reeder-for-mac-1.0". Count the number of characters in your Reedah password, subtract two, and remove this number of characters from the end of "reeder-for-mac-1.0". For example, if your password is "Abcdef12345" (length 11), you should have "Passwd=Abcdef12345" and "source=reeder-fo".
- Save the changes and exit the Hex editor.
Reeder has now been modified. Because your password is embedded in the binary, it should not be redistributed or stored in an accessible location.
Step 3: Clear the cache
Hold down the ⌘ key as you start Reeder. Click "Reset Reeder...", type your email address, and anything for the password (it is overridden by what you did when editing the binary). From this point, use Reeder normally.
