Modifying Windows programs to support Reedah is generally simple. Before you start, you will need to install a Hex editor (e.g. HxD) and the Windows program that syncs with Google Reader. For FeedDemon, this means version 4.1 (not 4.5, since that had the sync feature removed).

Step 1: Disable sync

Disable Google Reader sync under Tools->Options->Synchronization, Account tab. Exit FeedDemon (don't just minimize it).

Step 2: Clear the cache

Delete the directory Documents and Settings\Your account\Local Settings\Application Data\FeedDemon.

Step 3: Open FeedDemon with HxD

In Windows explorer, go to Program Files\Feed Demon. Make a copy of FeedDemon.exe (e.g. FeedDemon-orig.exe). Right-click FeedDemon.exe and choose "Open with HexEdit" (or start your Hex editor, choose File->Open, and then find FeedDemon.exe).

Step 4: Modfiy the program

  • Edit -> Replace, do "Replace All" of www.google.com to www.reedah.com
  • Edit -> Replace www.reedah.com/schemas to www.google.com/schemas
  • Save the changes and exit the Hex editor.

FeedDemon has now been modified. Start it normally, except when you set up sync, use your Reedah username & password instead of your Google one.
